Help identify historical fish in paintings

Which fish can you recognize in paintings? Prof. dr. Paul Smith of the University of Leiden’s Humanities faculty and researchers from Naturalis are asking this question of all fish experts: fishmongers, sport fishermen (and -women), employees of Ravon. The more people join the project, the better!

The project “Fishing in the Past” aims to collect as much data as possible about fish in the period from 1500 to 1850. Did people eat different fish then? Were there tropical fish in The Low Countries?

For more information, read this item by the Dutch nature programme Vroege Vogels. Join the project on the website Fishing in the Past.
