Environmental Humanities Center is starting a new book club in collaboration with the American Book Center: welcome to the Anthropocene Book Club!
Our first meeting will take place on Friday the 17th of April, 18:00-19:30
Location: American Book Center Amsterdam, Spui 12 1012XA
We are living in the “Anthropocene”. This is the name proposed by Nobel Prize-winning Dutch chemist Paul Crutzen to define our present era, in which human activity is the dominant force changing the planet in multiple, perhaps irreversible, ways. The new Anthropocene Book Club at the ABC (ABC@ABC) is a new monthly book club which aims to explore some of the urgent themes of our Anthropocene: climate change, human displacement, mass extinction, technological advances, rising sea levels, and alternative futures, to name but a few. We hope that through literature, we may come to a greater understanding of the challenges we face, in all their complexity.
Everyone is welcome!
Our first book will be Weather by Jenny Offill.
