Cinema Ecologica at EYE Film museum Amsterdam

Cinema Ecologica focuses on how film directors depict the relationship between humanity and the earth: from nail-biting disaster films to artistic meditations, from romantic nature experiences to astounding science fiction.

Can film help us to gain an impression of the world we’d like to live in? In Eye’s opinion, the answer is a resounding “yes”! Film directors have used fiction to show how humanity relates to nature, in every genre. Think, for instance, of disaster films, ones about pandemics, underwater creatures that can talk or plant-based life forms who colonise the minds and bodies of earth’s inhabitants.

The festival takes place from 11-17 November. On 16 November, EHC board member Kristine Steenbergh will take part in the evening focusing on the life of plants and trees, together with Arjen Mulder, Italian art collective Flatform, and futurologist Christiaan Fruneaux.
